Aetna completed the acquisition of Bupa Thailand yesterday for an undisclosed sum. This acquisition is part of Aetna’s strategy to expand in Asia and delve deeper into the local healthcare market in the region.
Bupa Thailand provides Aetna with in-depth knowledge of local healthcare, culture, and system and will ultimately be valuable to Aetna’s strategy in increasing their presence in Asia.
Mr Richard di Benedetto, President of Aetna International comments:
“This is a significant and exciting expansion for Aetna in Asia, and clearly demonstrates our commitment to investment and growth in the region and globally. Thailand is an important market for us, with increasing local wealth driving greater adoption of health insurance. Aetna’s wide product portfolio, together with an excellent talent and knowledge base transferring from Bupa, will put us in a very strong position in the local market.”
Bupa’s acting CEO of International Markets, Wayne Close comments:
“We would like to thank everyone in Bupa Thailand for their excellent care of customers in Thailand over many years. We know the business will continue to provide customers in Thailand with high quality and affordable health insurance.”
